Companies House ACSP Verification: Complete Guide

Companies House ACSP verification is the process of completing your identity verification through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider. This complete guide covers when to use an ACSP, how the process works, what it costs and how it compares to the alternative route.

When to use an ACSP

An ACSP is a good choice when:

  • You do not have a UK passport or UK driving licence
  • You live outside the UK and need to verify remotely
  • Your GOV.UK One Login verification was unsuccessful
  • You prefer guided support through the process
  • You need to verify multiple people and want a consistent experience

The alternative route is GOV.UK One Login, which is self-service and currently requires a UK passport or driving licence. Both routes result in the same outcome: a verified identity and an 11-character personal code.

How ACSP verification works

  1. Choose an ACSP: find a registered provider through the official Companies House ACSP list
  2. Provide your details: submit your personal information and company connections
  3. Upload documents: send your identity document(s) securely
  4. Complete liveness check: confirm you are the person on the document
  5. ACSP verifies your identity: the provider checks everything against the required standard
  6. Receive your personal code: Companies House issues your 11-character code

What documents ACSPs accept

ACSPs can accept a broader range of documents than GOV.UK One Login. Typical accepted documents include:

  • UK or foreign passport
  • National identity card
  • UK or certain foreign driving licences

Specific acceptance varies between ACSPs. Check the provider’s requirements page before starting. Companies House ID Verification’s requirements are listed in full on our website.

How much ACSP verification costs

Fees vary between providers. Some accountants and solicitors may include verification as part of a broader service package. Dedicated online verification services typically charge a flat fee per person. Companies House ID Verification charges a fixed £19 per person for the complete process.

How long it takes

For straightforward cases, ACSP verification can be completed within a few working hours after documents and payment are received. More complex cases may take longer, particularly if there are name mismatches or additional checks are needed for overseas documents.

After verification

Once you have your personal code, you must provide it for each company role you hold. This is done through the Companies House online filing service. Your code is yours for life and works across all your company roles — director, PSC, LLP member or authorised filer.
