Companies House Personal Code Not Received: Complete Troubleshooting Guide
By Deevan Naveed · October 2026 · 8 min read

This is a comprehensive troubleshooting guide if your Companies House personal code has not been received. Work through each step methodically to identify and resolve the issue.
Step 1: Confirm your verification is complete
The most common reason for not receiving a personal code is that verification is still in progress. Log in to the service you used - GOV.UK One Login or your ACSP - and check the status of your verification. If it shows as “pending”, “in progress” or “under review”, your code has not been issued yet.
Step 2: Check all email folders
Search your entire inbox, including spam, junk and promotions folders, for:
- “personal code”
- “verification complete”
- “Companies House”
- The name of the ACSP or service you used
Step 3: Verify your email address
Check that the email address on your verification account is correct. A single character typo (e.g. “gamil.com” instead of “gmail.com”) will mean the code was sent to the wrong address. If the address is wrong, contact the service to update it and request the code be resent.
Step 4: Check your account dashboard
Many ACSP services display your personal code in your online account rather than (or in addition to) sending it by email. Log in and check your dashboard, verification history or completed orders.
Step 5: Allow time for processing
If you verified recently, allow a reasonable period for the process to complete. Through Companies House ID Verification, most verifications are completed within the same working day. If additional checks are needed, it may take longer - you will be notified.
Step 6: Contact the verification service
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, contact the service you used:
- GOV.UK One Login - use the government’s help and support pages
- ACSP - contact the ACSP directly. If you used Companies House ID Verification, email [email protected]
Step 7: Contact Companies House
If the service you used confirms verification is complete but you still cannot access your code, contact Companies House directly. They can confirm whether a code has been issued and advise on next steps.
Prevent future issues
When you receive your code, immediately save it in a secure location - a password manager is ideal. This avoids the need to search for it again.
