Companies House Verification for Non-UK Residents
By Deevan Naveed · October 2026 · 8 min read

If you are a non-UK resident who holds a director, PSC, LLP member or authorised filer role at a UK company, you must complete Companies House identity verification. Residency outside the UK does not change this obligation. This guide explains your options.
Non-UK residents and the verification requirement
ECCTA applies to all individuals connected to UK companies in qualifying roles, regardless of where they live. Whether you are in Dubai, New York, Lagos or anywhere else, if you hold a relevant role, identity verification is required.
Your verification route
As a non-UK resident, your most likely route is through an ACSP. GOV.UK One Login requires a UK passport or UK driving licence — if you have one of these (some non-UK residents hold UK passports), you can use that route. Otherwise, an ACSP will accept your foreign identity documents.
No UK address required
You do not need a UK address to verify your identity. The process uses your residential address wherever you live. You also do not need to visit the UK at any point during the verification process.
Documents you will need
- A current passport or national identity card
- Your residential address details
- Company numbers for your UK company roles
See the full requirements for specific document guidance.
The online process
With an ACSP like Companies House ID Verification, the entire process is online. You upload your documents, complete a liveness check through your device’s camera, and receive your personal code electronically. The service operates across time zones and supports applicants worldwide.
Deadlines for non-UK residents
The deadlines are the same as for UK residents. Existing directors and PSCs have until November 2026. New appointees must verify before or shortly after registration. There is no extension or different timeline for non-UK residents.
Cost
The verification fee is the same regardless of your country of residence. Companies House ID Verification charges a fixed £19 per person with no additional international fees.
