Does a Director Need to Verify Their Identity More Than Once?

Director checking whether re-verification is required

In the vast majority of cases, a director does not need to verify their identity more than once. Your verification is a one-time event that produces a permanent personal code.

Verification is a one-time process

Once you verify your identity with Companies House and receive your personal code, that code is yours permanently. You do not need to go through the verification process again when:

  • You are appointed to a new directorship
  • You file another confirmation statement
  • You take on a PSC role
  • The company undergoes structural changes

When might re-verification be needed?

Re-verification could be necessary in rare circumstances:

  • Your personal code has been compromised and Companies House issues a replacement
  • There is a significant issue with the original verification that Companies House needs to address
  • Future regulatory changes introduce periodic re-verification requirements (none are currently planned)

You still need to provide the code regularly

While you only verify once, you must provide your personal code each time it is required - typically in your company’s annual confirmation statement. This is not re-verification; it is confirming your code for that filing.

Multiple companies

If you hold directorships at multiple companies, you provide the same code for each one. No additional verification is needed for additional roles.
