How Do Directors Complete Companies House ID Verification?
By Deevan Naveed · October 2026 · 8 min read

Companies House ID verification for directors follows a clear process. This guide walks you through each step so you can complete your director identity verification efficiently.
Step 1: Check your eligibility and deadline
As a director, you must verify - there is no exemption. Your deadline depends on when you were appointed:
- New directors (after 18 November 2025): verify before the appointment is registered
- Existing directors: verify by November 2026
Step 2: Choose your verification route
- GOV.UK One Login - free, but only accepts UK passport or UK driving licence
- An ACSP - accepts broader documents including international passports. Companies House ID Verification offers this for £19
Step 3: Prepare your documents
You will need:
- A valid photo identity document
- Your full legal name as it appears on your ID and on the Companies House register
- Your date of birth and residential address
- The company number(s) for your directorship(s)
Check the requirements page for accepted documents.
Step 4: Complete the identity check
The check involves document submission, data matching and a liveness check. Through Companies House ID Verification, the guided process takes about 15 minutes. You complete everything online from any location.
Step 5: Receive your personal code
After successful verification, you receive your 11-character personal code. Store it securely - you will need it for the next step and for future filings.
Step 6: Provide your code for each directorship
You must provide your personal code for each company where you are a director. This is done through the company’s confirmation statement on the Companies House online service. If you direct multiple companies, provide the code separately for each one.
Read the official guidance for detailed instructions on providing your code.
