How to Add Your Companies House Personal Code as a Director
By Deevan Naveed · October 2026 · 7 min read

After receiving your Companies House personal code, the next step is to link it to your directorship. This guide explains exactly how to add your code as a director.
When to provide your code
Directors provide their personal code as part of the company’s confirmation statement. The confirmation statement is an annual filing that confirms the company’s details are up to date. Your personal code is included in this filing to link your verified identity to your directorship.
Your 14-day window for providing the code is usually linked to the confirmation statement date. Check the official deadline guidance for your specific window.
How to add your code online
- Sign in to the Companies House WebFiling service
- Select the company where you are a director
- Begin the confirmation statement filing
- When prompted, enter your 11-character personal code
- Complete and submit the confirmation statement
The system will validate your code against your verified identity. If it matches, the code is linked to your directorship.
If your agent or accountant files for you
If someone else files the confirmation statement on your behalf, you will need to provide them with your personal code. Share it securely - not by unencrypted email. Use a secure portal, encrypted messaging or a phone call.
Common problems
- Code not accepted - check for typing errors, especially between similar characters (O/0, I/1)
- Name mismatch - your verified name must match the name on the Companies House register exactly
- Outside your filing window - the code can only be linked during the correct filing period
Multiple directorships
If you direct more than one company, repeat the process for each one. Same code, separate filings.
