How to Provide Your Personal Code as a PSC

PSC providing personal code through Companies House online service

Once you have completed Companies House identity verification and received your personal code, you need to provide it for each company where you are a PSC. This guide explains exactly how to do that.

Where to provide your personal code

You provide your personal code through the official Companies House online filing service. This is separate from the verification process itself — verification gives you the code, but you must then actively link it to each of your PSC roles.

Step-by-step process

  1. Sign in to the Companies House online filing service
  2. Select the company where you need to provide your PSC personal code
  3. Navigate to the identity verification section
  4. Enter your 11-character personal code when prompted
  5. Confirm the submission

Repeat this process for each company where you are registered as a PSC. If you hold PSC roles in five companies, you provide your code five times.

When to provide your code

Each PSC has a specific 14-day window during which they must provide their personal code. However, you can verify your identity and obtain your code at any time before that window opens. The important thing is to have your code ready when the window arrives.

If you are also a director of the same company, remember that providing your code for one role does not cover the other. You need to provide it separately for your directorship and for your PSC position.

Can someone else provide your code?

Your company’s authorised filer or accountant can provide your personal code on your behalf through the company filing service. If you share your code with them, do so securely — the code is linked to your verified identity and should be treated as confidential.

What happens after you provide your code

Once your personal code is successfully linked to your PSC role at a company, the Companies House register will show that your identity has been verified for that role. This satisfies your legal obligation for that specific company. You will not need to provide the code again for the same role unless your circumstances change.

Common issues when providing your code

  • Name mismatch: your name on the register must match the name on your verified identity. If there is a discrepancy, update your details on the register first.
  • Date of birth mismatch: similarly, your date of birth must match. Contact Companies House if corrections are needed.
  • Code not accepted: double-check you are entering all 11 characters correctly. The code is case-sensitive.
