What Documents Does an ACSP Need for Companies House Verification?
By Deevan Naveed · October 2026 · 7 min read

Before starting your Companies House identity verification through an ACSP, you need to know what documents are required. This guide covers the typical document requirements and what to prepare.
Primary identity document
You need a current photo identity document. ACSPs typically accept:
- Passport — UK or foreign, current and not expired
- National identity card — from countries that issue them, current and not expired
- Driving licence — UK photocard or certain foreign driving licences
The document must contain a clear photograph, your full legal name, your date of birth and other identifying information. Expired documents are not accepted.
Personal information you need to provide
Alongside your identity document, you will need to provide:
- Your full legal name (as it appears on your identity document)
- Your date of birth
- Your current residential address
- Your nationality
- The company number for each company where you hold a role
- Your role at each company (director, PSC, LLP member or authorised filer)
Additional requirements for overseas applicants
If you are based outside the UK, you may need:
- A foreign passport (the most commonly accepted document for international applicants)
- Proof of your overseas residential address in some cases
- A transliteration of your name if your document uses a non-Latin script
Document quality requirements
Your documents will be checked electronically and may be reviewed manually. To avoid delays:
- Take clear, well-lit photographs of your documents
- Ensure all text is readable and the photo is not obscured
- Capture the entire document, including edges and security features
- Avoid glare, shadows or reflections
What happens if your document is rejected
If the ACSP cannot accept your document — for example, if it is expired or too damaged to read — they will let you know and explain what alternative documents they can accept. In most cases, a valid passport is the simplest fallback option.
Checking your details match
Before starting, check that the name and date of birth on your identity document match what is recorded at Companies House. Discrepancies can prevent your personal code from linking to your company roles. Update the Companies House record first if corrections are needed.
